When Zorro arrived in February 2023, we knew his longevity was deeply questioned. Euthanasia was recommended for him unless someone could care for him which is why he came here. He had his last bout of colic in May of 2023 which was his serious issue, so we thought we were in the clear! Unfortunately, we didn't know his right front was as serious as it was. We could not get him comfortable despite numerous injection attempts, and trying individual Bute, Banamine and Equioxx trials. Nothing blocked the pain, and he continually walked with a head bob when the right front would hit the ground. Then coupled with the fractured right pelvis he was loading his left front and hind with more weight and by August/September of 2024 he was becoming increasingly lame in those legs. New X-Rays showed bone on bone in the right front coffin joint, so one last injection attempt was done in both coffin joints. After a month it was clear he was more uncomfortable than before so made the heart-breaking decision to end his pain. He was euthanized on October 11th, 2024.
